한–룩셈부르크 공관 상호 개설로 교류 강화
지난 7월 2일, 서울 중구 신라호텔에서 주한 룩셈부르크 대사관의 공식 개관과 룩셈부르크 국경일을 기념하여 룩셈부르크 자비에 베텔 부총리 겸 외교부 장관 및 스테파니 오베르탄 고등교육 연구부 장관 겸 디지털부 장관과 자크 플리스 주한 룩셈부르크 대사의 참석하에 리셉션이 개최되었다. 이 기념적인 리셉션에 한국 측 정부 인사 및 30 여 개국 주한 대사 등이 참석해 주한 룩셈부르크 대사관 개관을 축하했다.
Official inauguration of Luxembourg’s resident embassy in Seoul
The visit included the official inauguration of Luxembourg’s resident embassy in Seoul, attended by both ministers. Minister Bettel welcomed this opening as a step towards strengthening political, economic, cultural and research relations between the two countries. He also appreciated the Korean government’s decision to establish a resident embassy in Luxembourg.
These positive developments reflect the close relationship between Luxembourg and South Korea, both G20 members sharing democratic values.
Seoul Business Forum
In conjunction with the embassy opening, the Seoul Business Forum brought together thought leaders, entrepreneurs and government representatives from both nations to explore new collaboration opportunities. The forum showcased Luxembourg as launch pad to Europe for the Korean ICT and space ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on cybersecurity and the data economy.
Promoting research and innovation cooperation
Enhancing bilateral relations in research and innovation was an important objective of the working visit. The Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) signed memorandums of understanding with the City of Goyang and the National Cancer Centre (NCC) to establish research cooperation in precision and data-driven medicine, particularly for cancer patients care. Minister Obertin also visited the Samsung Medical Centre (SMC) and its Institute for Research into the Medicine of the Future as well as the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.
