Headquartered in Boston, AIRINC provides insights to facilitate global and domestic mobility of talents. Its Global 150 Cities Index is a list of the best cities in the world based on financial and lifestyle metrics.
The 2023 global index ranks Luxembourg in 4th place overall. Zurich, Geneva and Munich secured the top three spot, respectively. The least-ranked cities include, Port au Prince in Haiti, the capital of Papua New Guinea, Port Moresby, and Beirut, Lebanon.
The staff at AIRINC evaluates both financial and non-financial factors to determine the overall attractiveness of cities. It keeps track of talent compensation levels per location. The cost of living is calculated using the prices of more than 350 goods and services. Local tax rates, social security benefits, and family allowances are all considered to determine the overall tax situation per location. To assess the living conditions, social benefits and over 60 hardship components—which are divided into 11 categories including physical threat, safety, discomfort, and inconvenience—are taken into consideration.
The study also ranks cities based on these two standalone categories. Luxembourg ranks 15th worldwide in the financial ranking. It shares the 20th position for lifestyle benefits with Auckland in New Zealand, Madrid in Spain, and Oslo in Norway.
Luxembourg offers excellent infrastructure, healthcare, and education choices, enhancing its overall desirability for professionals and expatriates. The banking and financial hub of Luxembourg is located at the Kirchberg Plateau, which also houses many popular European institutions.
